FLINT, MI - Chad Alban had an outstanding game in net turning aside 34 of 35 shots to lift the Flint Generals to a 3-1 victory over the Port Huron Icehawks on Saturday night at Perani Arena and Event Center. The victory by the Generals snapped a three game winless slide and improved their record to 3-4-1-0.The difference in the game on Saturday was solid defensive hockey and timely penalty killing.
The Port Huron Icehawks scored the game's first goal 26 seconds into the opening period but after that the Generals settled down and got stronger as the contest went along.
Greg Bullock tied the game up for the Generals when he fired a shot past goaltender Larry Sterling on the power play early in the second period. It was the 10th power play goal by the Generals this season. Four minutes later, Josef Fojtik tapped home a loose puck in front of the net and the Generals had a 2-1 advantage. Steve Rmysha set up the play with a good shot that Sterling couldn't control on the rebound.
It was a great defensive stand in the third period for the Generals and Greg Bullock added an empty net goal in the final 10 seconds of the game.
The Generals return to action next Thursday when they host the Muskegon Lumberjacks for the first time this season at 7 pm at Perani Arena and Event Center.
