Argos Dorsey Named East Outstanding Special Teams Player For Second Straight Year

November 4, 2008 - Canadian Football League (CFL) Toronto Argonauts

Mississauga - One day after he was named to the East All-Star team for the second time in as many years, Toronto Argonauts RB/KR Dominique Dorsey has been named a UNANIMOUS selection as East Division Most Outstanding Special Teams Player for the second consecutive season. In earning the award, Dorsey becomes the fifth Argo in the last six years to be recognized as the top special teams player in the East Division.

Argonauts CEO, and pro-football's all-time all-purpose yards leader, Michael 'Pinball' Clemons enthused, "I've never seen anything, or should I say anyone, quite like him. Despite having missed five games, he put together the most impressive season I've seen since playing with Doug Flutie. A decade ago, I was the first pro-football player to break the 3,000-yard barrier. Dominique was on pace to produce a jaw-dropping, inconceivable 4,000-yard season. Every time he touched the ball, you got that excited, rollercoaster feeling inside - you knew something special was going to happen. I haven't enjoyed watching a player this much since Gizmo Williams. He's dynamic, electrifying, a great team player and quite simply the most entertaining player to watch in football."

Already a unanimous choice for team Most Outstanding Player and Outstanding Special Teams Player, and an East Division All-Star for the second-straight year at kick returner, Dorsey is the most decorated player on the Argos roster this season. Despite missing five games due to injury, he ended the season as the CFL's all-purpose yards leader by nearly 150 yards. The reigning East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player has accumulated at least 200 all-purpose yards in a game nine (9) times this season, twice going for more than 300 yards, has scored four touchdowns, been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and CFL Special Teams Player of the Month twice (July & September). Also, this season Dorsey set a new Argos single-season kickoff yards record (1,257) and a new club single-game kickoff yards record (225).

Other Argonauts to have won the award are Bashir Levingston (2003), Noel Prefontaine (2005 & 2006) and Dominique Dorsey (2007). Levingston is the only Argo to be named the CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player.
