Everett, WA - The Everett Silvertips lost only their second game of the season at home Saturday night against the Edmonton Oil Kings, 3-1. Shane Harper had Everett's lone goal of the night while Kent Simpson had 30 saves in the loss. Edmonton Goaltender Torrie Jung had 30 saves for the win. Everett went zero for three on the power play while Edmonton converted two of six times to lead their franchise to their first win at Comcast Arena. Saturday night's game marks the first time that Edmonton has played at the Comcast Arena and only the second meeting between the two teams ever. Their first encounter resulted in a 4-1 Everett loss back in November 1st of 2007 at Rexall Place in Edmonton.
Edmonton was the first to get on the scoreboard capitalizing on a power play at 8:29 of the 1st period. Oil Kings forward Tomas Vincour scored his eighth goal of the season after Everett took a penalty for too many men on the ice. Vincour got the puck past Kent Simpson firing a hard shot from the top of the crease and beating him five-hole making the score 1-0. Everett controlled the play in the second half of the period testing Edmonton's Torrie Jung, but could not find the back of the net. Everett outshot the Oil Kings 11-9 after 20 minutes.
The Oil Kings opened up the 2nd period on the power play after Kyle Beach received four minutes for hooking and unsportsmanlike conduct. Beach also received a 10 minute misconduct after having words with the officials. Graham Pouter was called for checking from behind during the penalty kill giving Edmonton a five on three man advantage. The Oil Kings would jump on the opportunity as Craig McCallum fired a top shelf one-timer from the point beating Simpson high glove and pushing Edmonton's lead to two. Less than two minutes later McCallum struck again putting home his fifth of the year at 3:34 of the second opening the lead to 3-0. Edmonton controlled the 2nd period outshooting the 'Tips 19-7.
Everett started to show hope at the 11:47 mark of the third. Shane Harper scored his seventh goal of the season flipping the puck past Torrie Jung to give Everett some life. However it wouldn't be enough as the Edmonton Oil Kings defeated Everett, 3-1.
