Iowa Chops News Release

Fueled by three power play goals on their first three chances, the Houston Aeros downed the Iowa Chops 3-1 on Tuesday night in Houston. Bobby Ryan scored the lone goal for the Chops, also a power play goal on a nice pass from Brian Salcido and Joakim Lindstrom. The game started strong for the Chops, who dominated the first period, especially 5 on 5 as they outshot the Aeros 14-4 in the opening frame, but penalties hurt the Chops early. The Aeros opened the scoring with a backdoor goal from defenseman Maxim Noreau past a helpless David LeNeveu, who got his second straight start in goal. Ryan then tied the game late in the 1st period with a one-timer from the bottom of the circle. The 2nd period was all Aeros as they scored on their next two power plays to make it 3-1 and outshooting Iowa 10-3 in the period. The Chops has plenty of chances in the 3rd period, including four power plays, but Aeros goaltender Nolan Schaeffer made the lead stick with several nice saves. During the Texas roadswing, the Chops were on the penalty kill 27 times in three games, including 10 on Tuesday night.

The Iowa Chops now return back to Des Moines and will play eight out of their next nine games at home including two this upcoming weekend against the defending Calder Cup Champion Chicago Wolves. The action begins Friday night, October 31st at 7:05pm at the Wells Fargo Arena. Friday night is a safe trick-or-treat and free candy for kids, followed by a costume contest for all fans presented by COSTCO. For more information, call 515-564-8700.
