CFL unveils Argo award nominees

Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate its team nominees for the 2008 Gibson's Finest CFL Player Awards. The players are selected by the voting members of the Toronto chapter of the Football Reporters of Canada.

Outstanding Defensive Player LB Willie Pile

Outstanding Lineman OG Taylor Robertson

Outstanding Special Teams Player RB/KR Dominique Dorsey*

Dominique Dorsey is a double, unanimous nominee for both Argonauts' Outstanding Player and Outstanding Special Teams Player. Despite missing four games due to injury, he is still the CFL's all-purpose yards leader by a large margin. The reigning East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player has accumulated at least 200 all-purpose yards in a game nine (9) times this season, twice going for more than 300 yards, has scored four touchdowns, been named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and CFL Special Teams Player of the Month twice (July & September). Also this season, Dorsey set a new Argos single-season kickoff yards record and a new club single-game kickoff yards record. This is the second straight season he has been named the Argos' Outstanding Special Teams Player and the first time he has been named the Argos' Outstanding Player.

Don't let his size fool you. Although Andre Talbot is small in stature, he is the team's second-leading receiver, has led the Argos in receptions six times this season and has set a new career-high for receptions (70) and receiving yards (823). The Toronto native is an agile and reliable competitor who was named an offensive captain by his teammates at the start of the season. This is the first time Talbot has been named the Argos' Outstanding Canadian.

LB Willie Pile is a second-year Argo and a force to be reckoned with. He leads the team, and is fourth in the East, with 70 defensive tackles. With at least seven tackles this week he would improve on his incredible rookie year number of 76. He recorded his first career interception earlier this season, has 2 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, 2 tackles for a loss and 3 pass knockdowns. Pile is a reliable player with tremendous ability who has started nearly every game on defence and special teams. Coach Matthews has already identified Pile as a building block of the future. This is the first time Pile has been nominated as the Argos' Outstanding Defensive Player.

OG Taylor Robertson arrived in Toronto in 2007 and earned East All-Star accolades as well as team outstanding lineman honours for his excellent play. Robertson has built on that foundation and had another strong year. He is a competitive, hard-nose Canadian who has yet to miss a start in two seasons with the Argos and pushes the entire line to be better each game. This is the second-straight season Taylor has earned the nomination.

DB Kenny Heatly attended Argos' training camp in 2007, was released, and returned in 2008 to make the team. He has started nine games this season and shown outstanding speed and football-savvy. Heatly has 33 tackles, 3 pass knockdowns and 1 fumble recovery thus far. The 26-year old new father is developing a good knowledge of the game and has been a tremendous asset for the Boatmen in 2008.
