SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -The Lowell Devils scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Springfield Falcons on Saturday night at the MassMutual Center. Assistant captain Pascal Rheaume paced Lowell's offense with a goal and two assists on the night.
Tied 1-1 after one period of play, the Devils took their first lead of the game at 1:35 when Vladimir Zharkov circled out from behind net and whipped a shot that ricocheted off the shaft of Rheaume's stick and behind goalie Devan Dubnyk.
Matt Halischuk pushed Lowell's lead to two goals at 5:53 mark as he raced the right wing and worked to the crease before flipping a backhand shot in between Dubnyk's pads. The eventual game-winner was Halischuk's fifth goal of the season, tying him for the league lead among AHL rookies.
The score went to 4-1 in the Devils favor under eight minutes later on Matt Corrente's first professional goal. Trailing the play on a 3-on-2 rush, the defenseman accepted a cross-zone pass from Zharkov before slipping a long shot to the right side of the net.
Geoff Paukovich put Springfield up just 2:58 in the contest as he skated out from the side of the net and beat Scott Clemmensen with a backhander to the short side. Lowell tied the score almost three minutes later on the power play with Nicklas Bergfors' second goal of the season. The Devils forward cut in from the far circle and knuckled a wrister the sailed over the shoulder of Dubnyk.
Liam Reddox added a power play goal in the third period for the Falcons to complete the scoring.
Clemmensen made 27 saves for his third win of the season. The Devils were 1-for-6 on the power play and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill.
