Regina Pats News Release

Week in Review:

October 8th, 2008 Regina Pats 5 vs. Kootenay Ice 4

In his return to the line-up after suffering a concussion in the September 27th game against the Prince Albert Raiders, 19 year old forward Brett Leffler returned to the line-up with a vengeance. The big horse scored twice, and added an assists, as the Pats won their fourth in a row 5-4. They took a 3-0 lead early in the second period on Leffler's second of the hockey game, but a rash of penalties saw the Ice score three times in 2 minutes to tie the game at three.

Matt Strueby's team leading fifth of the season got the Pat in front 4-3, and in the third Jordan Eberle scored a shorthanded goal, which turned out to be the winner.

October 11th, 2008 Regina Pats 3 vs. Tri-City Americans 4 OT

For the first 50 minutes, it was some of the best hockey the Regina Pats have played all season. The final 10 and into overtime was the polar opposite. It all began well with a pair of goals from Matt Strueby (his 6th and 7th of season) and Colten Teubert (4th), and held a 3-0 lead into the 3rd period. It began to implode at the 13:54 mark of the final period and five minutes later it was all tied at three.

In overtime, Garrett Mitchell took a roughing call, and Justin Feser scored the game winning goal with the man-advantage for the victory. That marker was Feser's 3rd of the game, while Emerald Park native Taylor Procyshen added a goal of his own and three assists.

Who's Hot?

Matt Strueby has goals in five straight games (which gives him a team leading 7), and is now tied for the team lead in points with Jordan Weal. Rudolf Cerveny has quietly had a fantastic start to the season with 7 points and is a team leading +13.

Special Teams Woes:

It has been a sore spot since the beginning of the season, as both the power play and shorthanded units continue to struggle. In 46 power plays, the Pats have scored just three times (6.5%). While with a man down, opponents have scored 12 times on 55 attempts (78.2%).

Injury Front:

Mitch Czibere (Knee) - 2-3weeks

The Pats have lost 17 man games due to injury.

The pats saw the return of a couple of players to the line-up. On Wednesday against the Ice, Brett Leffler played his first game since late September, after recovering from the affect of a concussion. Saturday night was the season debut of 17 year old forward Kyle Mulder. He missed the beginning of the season with a hip flexor problem.
