Bruins Tame T-Birds In Shootout

October 12, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL) Seattle Thunderbirds

Chilliwack, BC, October 12, 2008 - The Chilliwack Bruins defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 in a shootout Sunday night at Prospera Centre in Chilliwack.

Seattle went first in the shootout. Jeremy Boyer was the first shooter for the T-Birds and he was stopped by Chilliwack goalie Lucas Gore. Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made the stop on Chilliwack's first shooter, Jadon Potter.

Greg Scott, the second Seattle shooter, rang his shot off the cross bar. Kevin Sundher scored on Pickard low to put the Bruins in front. Gore made the save on the last Seattle shooter, Prab Rai, to get the win for the Bruins.

Thomas Hickey gave the T-Birds a 1-0 lead at 3:48 of the fist period. Hickey beat Gore with a slap shot from the right circle. Jim O'Brien and David Richard had the assists.

Both teams had 11 shots on goal in the first period.

Seattle (2-6-0-1) outshot Chilliwack 9-6 in a scoreless second period. Seattle led in shots 20-17 after two periods.

Potter tied the game 1-1 for the Bruins at 17:50 of the third period. David Robinson and Kevin Sundher had the assists.

The T-Birds outshot the Bruins 13-7 in the third period and led 33-24 in total shots after 60 minutes.

Seattle outshot Chilliwack 3-1 in overtime and 36-26 in the game.

Pickard made 24 saves on 26 shots and his record is now 1-3-0-1.

Gore stopped 35 of 36 shots and his record is 3-1-1-0.

The T-Birds next game is Friday, October 17, against the Tri-City Americans in Kennewick. They return home on Saturday, October 18, to take on the Kelowna Rockets at KeyArena at 7:05 p.m.

T-Birds season tickets are currently on sale. Season tickets can be purchased by calling the T-Birds office at 253-239-7825. Purchasing a season ticket will ensure fans can attend the T-Birds first game in their new home, the Kent Events Center.
