At around 7:00 pm on Saturday evening, a vehicle driven by Kitchener Rangers player Mike Mascioli was struck by a pickup truck when travelling through the intersection at Franklin Boulevard and Weber Street. All five occupants of the vehicle, including teammate Kevin Hudes were taken to hospital. Mascioli, Hudes and two other passengers were treated for injuries and released from hospital last night. The remaining passenger was transferred to a Hamilton hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The 18 year old driver of the pickup truck was not seriously hurt and has been charged with failing to stop for a red light.
"It is the type of telephone call that you never want to receive" said Rangers Chief Operating Officer Steve Bienkowski. "Although any type of injury scares you, you are thankful that all the young people affected by this were not more seriously injured."
