Brandon, Manitoba - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, in conjunction with Oak Island Golf Resort are pleased to announce this year's Grand Prize winner in the "How I Spent My Summer Vacation Contest."

Jason McVicar of Kingston, Ontario was chosen from well over two hundred entries and as a result he has won a Wheat Kings' replica jersey, a golf prize package from Oak Island Golf as well as a Hockey Canada pine cooler, autographed by Brandon's gold medal winners Colby Robak, Brayden Schenn and Scott Glennie.

This year's contest was held in honour of the Wheat Kings' new website launch in September. Fans were invited to visit the new look site, check out its exciting new features and share the highlights of their summer vacations for a chance to win this great prize.

McVicar, an older brother to former Wheat Kings' netminder Robert McVicar spent a week canoeing in fabled Algonquin Provincial Park during the first week of September. They paddled over 80km and portaged 12km during the last spectacular days of summer.

"It was inexpensive, peaceful and relaxing," says Jason. "We're already looking forward to next September."

Western Manitoba hockey fans dominated the contest but entries were received from across Canada, the United States and even Holland.

On the ice, the Wheat Kings kicked off a 4-game homestand Friday night with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Red Deer Rebels. 17-year old center Brayden Schenn scored once and set up another for the Wheat Kings, who improved their record to 3-2-0 on the season.

Brandon continues the homestand Saturday night against Regina. Puck drop is at 7:30 and for tickets call 726-3555 or go online at www.ticketmaster.ca
