Fans Encouraged to Arrive Early due to Arrowhead Stadium Construction

September 12, 2008 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Sporting Kansas City News Release

The Kansas City Wizards (6-9-8, 26 pts) face the Los Angeles Galaxy (6-9-8, 26 pts) Saturday at 4 p.m. CT at Arrowhead Stadium, presented by M&I Bank***. The game will be broadcast live nationally on HDNet and will be David Beckham's first-ever appearance in Kansas City. Kansas City and Los Angeles square off with the same record, and a win will propel either team squarely into the hunt for the final spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs. The Wizards are six points out of the final playoff position in the East, while the Galaxy sit four points back in the West.

Tickets are still available by calling (913) 387-3400, logging onto www.kcwizards.com or at any Ticketmaster outlet. Major League Soccer matches are played through the rain; only severe lightning would cancel tomorrow's game. Umbrellas are allowed inside Arrowhead Stadium. The first 10,000 fans in the stadium will receive water bottles courtesy of M&I Bank. The Wizards, M&I Bank and Harvesters are also holding a food drive outside the stadium. The first 700 fans that donate three or more non-perishable items will receive a special-edition T-shirt.

Kansas City will feature a squad near full strength, as only defender Matt Marquess and midfielder Sasha Victorine are in danger of missing the game. The Wizards will have the services of newly acquired forwards Herculez Gomez and Abe Thompson, who were picked up last week from the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas, respectively. Each player made his Wizards debut in the second half of last weekend's match in Houston.

International star David Beckham joined his teammates yesterday in Los Angeles and will travel with the team to Kansas City today. Beckham played in a World Cup Qualifier Wednesday for England, who won 4-1 at Croatia. Beckham will be available for selection by Bruce Arena Saturday along with United States internationals Landon Donovan and Eddie Lewis and Canadian international Ante Jazic. Both Donovan and Lewis played in the United States' 3-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago Wednesday night at TOYOTA Park in Bridgeview, Ill. Jazic suited up but did not play as Canada lost to Mexico 2-1 Wednesday in Mexico.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early tomorrow for the 4 p.m. match, as construction on Arrowhead Stadium will limit entrances to the Sports Complex and stadium itself. Ticket windows will also be limited to seven, less than half as many as were available in previous years at Arrowhead Stadium. With a strong walk-up crowd expected, spectators are encouraged to arrive as early as possible. Sports Complex parking gates will open at 1 p.m.

Parking and stadium information:

- Parking Gates open at 1 p.m. CT

- Stadium Gates open at 2 p.m. CT

- Gates B, C and D will be available

***Game originally scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at CommunityAmerica Ballpark
