Lancaster JetHawks News Release
(LANCASTER, CA) - The California League announced its 2008 post-season All-Stars and Awards today and the JetHawks captured three spots on the distinguished list, including Manager of the Year, which Chad Epperson won for the second straight season. OF Josh Reddick and 3B Jorge Jimenez also were named as post-season all stars. The voting is done by league managers, general managers, and broadcasters, as well as selected members of local media.
In his second season at the helm of the JetHawks, Chad Epperson has led the club to the best overall record in the South Division, following the 2007 season when his club posted the best overall record in the California League. This season, the JetHawks won the first half championship and are currently in first place by 3.5 games with eight to play in the second half. Should the JetHawks clinch a second-half title, it would be the fourth straight half-season title won by the club as an affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.
Epperson becomes just the third man to win the award in back-to-back seasons, the last being Tom Kelly in (1979-1980) who went on to win two World Series titles with the Minnesota Twins. Epperson joins 2000 manager Mark Parent and 2002 skipper Bill Plummer as JetHawks Manager of the Year award winners.
Reddick hit .343 in 76 games with the JetHawks. The native of Savannah Georgia hit 17 home runs with Lancaster driving in 57 runs. Reddick was leading the club with eight triples at the time of his promotion to the Portland Sea Dogs.
A member of the California League All-Star team, Jimenez only recently came off the leader boards with a .352 average in just 70 games with the JetHawks before getting the call up to Double-A Portland.
Playoff tickets are on sale now for the JetHawks home playoff games on September 6 and September 7. All tickets are only $5 and the entire stadium will be general admission for all games during the post season. To order, call 661.726.5400 or go on-line at www.JetHawks.com.
