Bank of America Pitcher-Player of the Week Awards Week Ending August 10th

PORTLAND, ME - The Eastern League is pleased to announce the Major League Baseball Advanced Media selections for the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher and Player of the Week Awards for the week ending August 10th: Erie SeaWolves outfielder Casper Wells has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending August 10th. The 23-year old carried the SeaWolves offense last week, batting .414 (12-for-29) with two doubles, one triple, five home runs, 13 runs scored, 11 RBI, three walks and a 1.069 slugging percentage while leading the team to a 6-1 record. Wells, who is a native of Grand Rapids, Michigan, had three multiple hit games last week, including hitting three homers and driving in five runs in an 11-2 win against Harrisburg on Tuesday night. The 6'2", 210 lb. slugger is hitting .288 with 13 doubles, four triples, 12 home runs, 42 runs scored and 40 RBI in 56 games for the SeaWolves this season. Casper, who was a Midwest League All-Star as a member of the West Michigan White Caps prior to receiving a promotion to Erie on June 6th, was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 14th round of the 2005 draft out of Townson State University.

Scott Lewis, a left-handed starting pitcher for the Akron Aeros, is the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending August 10th. Lewis, who is a native of West Covina, California, made a pair of starts for the Aeros last week and had a record of 1-0 with 15 strikeouts and a 0.00 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched. The 6'0", 195 lb. hurler made his first start of the week last Monday night at Altoona and surrendered only one hit and two walks while striking out 10 batters in 5.2 innings of work to earn his sixth win of the season. The 24-year old made his second appearance of the week on Saturday night at Trenton and got a no-decision despite allowing just one unearned run on four hits while striking out five batters over 7.2 innings. Scott, who has not allowed an earned run in his last 19.1 innings pitched, was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the third round of the 2004 draft out of Ohio State University where he was named the 2003 Big 10 Pitcher of the Year.
