Bees Allow 14 Runs in Loss to Dayton

Burlington, IA (Jul 30, 2008) - The Burlington Bees allowed multiple runs in four separate innings Wednesday night in a 14-4 loss to the Dayton Dragons. In the loss, Jason Taylor went 3-4 with a run scored and three RBI. One of Taylor's hits was his 13th homerun of the season.
Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Bees and struggled. In the first two innings, Dayton scored six runs. The Bees got on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Nick Van Stratten doubled to lead the inning off and moved to third on a Juan Rivera fly-out. Ryan Eigsti then hit a sacrifice fly to score Van Stratten and cut the Dragons lead to 6-1.
The Dragons scored at least one run for three straight innings beginning in the fourth inning. Gutierrez pitched four innings allowing eight runs, four of which were earned, on 11 hits. The Bees did score one run in both the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Taylor hit his 15th homerun with nobody on base to score the Bees' second run of the day. In the sixth inning, Jason Taylor hit an RBI single to score David Lough.
The Bees added one more run in the bottom of the eighth inning. Mike Moustakas led the inning off by singling and then moved to third on a Taylor double. Nick Francis then hit into an RBI ground-out to score Moustakas. After a single and a walk, the Bees had the bases loaded but could not score any more runs in the inning.
The Dragons added four more runs in the ninth to finish out their scoring for the 14-4 lead. The Bees used two relief pitchers in the game. Matt Peterson pitched 1.2 innings allowing two runs on three hits. Burke Baldwin allowed four runs, two of which were earned, on seven hits in 3.1 innings of work. Baldwin did work 2.1 innings before allowing any runs.
The Bees were outhit 21-8. Taylor was the only Bee with more than one hit going 3-4.
