New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release

Manchester, NH- J.P. Arencibia hit a tie-breaking home run to help the New Hampshire Fisher Cats defeat the Portland Sea Dogs, 7-5, in the conclusion of a suspended game from June 22, and Kyle Phillips highlighted a three-run first inning with a two-run homer as the Fisher Cats won the regularly-scheduled game, 5-1, Monday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. In the completion of the June 22nd suspended game, Arencibia homered and Chris Gutierrez added a run-scoring single to break up a 5-5 tie in the eighth inning, giving the Fisher Cats a 7-5 victory over the Sea Dogs.

Back on June 22, New Hampshire (44-64) took a 1-0 lead against Kyle Jackson in the bottom of the first inning on a Travis Snider (0-for-3, BB, RBI, R) run-scoring ground out.

The Fisher Cats made it 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning when Brian Jeroloman (2-for-2, 2B, 2 R), now with Triple-A Syracuse, doubled to right field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Anthony Hatch (1-for-1, 2B, SF, 3 RBI), who is now with Advanced-A Dunedin.

Facing New Hampshire starter and now Triple-A Syracuse pitcher Ricky Romero in the top of the third inning, Portland (57-48) got on the board courtesy of a fielder's choice ground out by Sandy Madera (0-for-1, BB, RBI), who now plays at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Hatch lined a two-run double to right field, scoring Jacob Butler (1-for-3, 2B, BB, R) and Jeroloman to stake the Fisher Cats to a 4-1 lead.

Picking the suspended game up tonight, New Hampshire added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 lead when Snider doubled off losing pitcher Daniel Haigwood, advanced to third on Butler's double and scored on Haigwood's wild pitch.

The Sea Dogs tagged Julio Pinto for back-to-back home runs from Mickey Hall (1-for-2, HR, RBI, R), his fifth, and Iggy Suarez (2-for-2, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R), his fourth, in the top of the sixth inning to trim the Fishers' lead to 5-3.

Portland made it 5-4 in the top of the seventh on an infield RBI single from Lars Anderson (1-for-2, BB, RBI) off winning pitcher Daryl Harang. The run was charged to Pinto, who departed with an apparent injury with no one out in the inning.

Suarez tied the game, 5-5, with his fifth homer, a solo blast off Harang that landed in the Poultry Products Dinner in the Den in the top of the eighth inning.

Arencibia (1-for-2, HR, RBI, R) made it 6-5 with what will technically serve as his second home run of the season, a solo shot off Haigwood that cleared the rightfield wall. David Smith (1-for-2, 2B, R) doubled and scored on a two-out RBI single from Gutierrez (1-for-4, RBI).

Harang (3-2) allowed one run on three hits in 2.2 innings for the win. The left-hander walked two and struck out one.

Seth Overbey retired one batter to register his first save of the season.

Haigwood (2-2) allowed three runs on five hits in 4.1 innings of relief to suffer the loss.

Fisher Cats third baseman Andrew Pinckney was the only position player not to appear for New Hampshire in the suspended game. As a member of the Sea Dogs when the game began, Pinckney went 1-for-2 with a single off Romero in the top of the second inning.

In the nightcap, the Fisher Cats jumped on Jackson for three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Scott Campbell (0-for-1 3 BB, R) and Snider (0-for-1, BB, R) walked, Campbell scampered to third on a Jackson wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Arencibia (0-for-2, SF, RBI). Phillips (2-for-3, HR, 2 RBI) then followed with a two-run blast, his fifth, onto the access road in right field for a 3-0 lead.

Left-hander Brad Mills, making his Double-A debut for the Fisher Cats, held the Sea Dogs to one unearned run over four innings of work. He scattered five hits -all singles-, struck out four and walked two.

Orlando Roman (1-1) earned his first Fisher Cats' win with two shutout innings of relief. The right-hander allowed three hits and struck out three.

Jackson (5-2) yielded five runs on four hits in 3.2 innings. The righty struck out three and walked five.

Portland scored its only run in the top of the third inning when Bryan Pritz (1-for-3, BB, R) walked and moved to second base on an infield single by Jorge Jimenez (2-for-4). Mills committed a throwing error, allowing both runners to take an extra base, and Zach Daeges (1-for-2, SF, RBI) drove in Pritz with a sac fly, making it a 3-1 game.

The Fisher Cats widened the margin in the bottom of the fourth inning when Butler (1-for-2, 2B, BB, 2 RBI, R) ripped a two-run double off Jackson, scoring Smith (0-for-2, BB, R) and Pinckney (2-for-3, R) for a 5-1 lead.

The Fisher Cats and the Sea Dogs meet again Tuesday night in a 7:05pm game at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire right-hander Brandon Magee (4-11, 4.88) takes the mound against Portland left-hander Dustin Richardson (6-6, 5.70).
