Manchester, NH- Brett Cecil, a left-handed starting pitcher for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, has been named the Bank of America Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending Sunday, July 27. The 6'3", 220 lb. hurler made a pair of starts for the Fisher Cats last week and went 2-0 with 14 strikeouts and a 0.77 ERA in 11.2 innings. Following his award-winning week, the Toronto Blue Jays today promoted Cecil to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs.

Cecil, 22, surrendered one run on six hits with six strikeouts over 5.2 innings last Tuesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium in the Fisher Cats' victory over the first place Trenton Thunder.

On Sunday in Reading, the Eastern League All-Star tied a career high with eight strikeouts in six shutout innings against the Phillies to earn his team-leading sixth victory. Cecil, rated Toronto's #2 prospect by Baseball America, allowed just three singles -including two infield hits- and one walk.

Cecil was drafted in 2007 by the Blue Jays as a supplemental first round pick (38th overall) out of the University of Maryland. He was promoted to the Fisher Cats on April 29, where he posted a record of 6-2 with a 2.55 ERA in 18 starts. Cecil struck out 87 batters and walked just 23.

The Fisher Cats open a five-game series at Merchantsauto.com Stadium tonight against the Portland Sea Dogs at 6:05pm. Tonight the teams will complete a suspended game from June 22, followed by the regularly-scheduled game, which will be a seven-inning contest.
