Hart Wins Final NL All Star Spot

July 11, 2008 - Southern League (SL) Huntsville Stars

Corey Hart will be joining his Brewer teammates and fellow Huntsville Stars alumni Ryan Braun and Ben Sheets in New York Tuesday for the 2008 MLB All-Star Game. Hart won the final spot on the National League's roster Thursday, through the MLB's online fan vote.

Hart's eight million votes were enough to hold off New York Mets' third baseman David Wright and Philadelphia Phillies' outfielder Pat Burrell. The performances of teammates Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder seem to have overshadowed the 26 year-old Hart in recent years, but he has been one of Milwaukee's most consistent players this season. Entering Friday's game against the Cincinnati Reds Hart was hitting .292 with 15 home runs, 57 RBI, and a team-leading 13 stolen bases.

Hart played in Huntsville in 2002 and 2003, and won the Southern League Most Valuable Player Award in ‘03. That year he led the Southern League in hits (149), doubles (40), and RBI (94). He was also named to the Southern League Midseason and Postseason All-Star Teams.

The Stars will be hosting a MLB All-Star Game Party Tuesday night at Buffalo Wild Wings in Jones Valley. Fans will be given the chance to watch yesterday's Stars and today's All-Stars with today's Stars and tomorrow's All-Stars. Also, as part of Saturday night's "I ‘Hart' the Stars" promotion, the Stars will be giving away Corey Hart Stars T-shirt Jerseys, presented by Terranova's, Creative Touch Jewelers, and Star 99 FM.
