NORWICH, CT- The Defenders opened up their seven-game home stand with a bang as Nate Bump led Connecticut to a 4-2 victory over the New Britain Rock Cats.

Olmo Rosario provided the offense in the second as he bounced a single up the middle with the bases juiced to bring to runs home and the Defenders pushed their lead to 3-0.

Ben Copeland's RBI triple scored Jake Wald who drew a walk with two outs to make it 4-0, Defenders.

As the runs were piling up for the home team, Bump was tossing a gem. Through five innings, Bump hadn't allowed a hit. It was the first batter of the sixth in Dustin Martin who slapped a single through the right side of the infield to break up the no-no.

Justin Hedrick came in shortly thereafter and threw two scoreless innings of relief as the lead remained intact through eight.

The Cats finally tallied the score column in the ninth inning on a controversial two-run homer off the stick of David Winfree that just hooked fair. The rally would end there as the Defenders secured a 4-2 victory.

Nate Bump picked up his first win of 2008 as Rock Cats' starter Ryan Mullins suffered his fifth defeat. Rosario highlighted the offense with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with 2 RBIs.
