Patriots Beat Bluefish 10-4

BRIDGEPORT , CT- The Somerset Patriots defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish 10-4 in front of 3,435 fans at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Sunday afternoon.

Somerset broke a 4-4 tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 7-4 lead. Rightfielder Ryan Radmanovich led off by crushing a solo home run (1) to right. Centerfielder Sean Smith then reached on a Bluefish fielding error on a ground ball to short and shortstop Elliott Ayala followed by reaching on a fielder's choice to second. Leftfielder Michael Ryan then lined a two out two run double off the right field wall to score both Smith and Ayala.

The Patriots added a run in the top of the eighth inning to extend their lead to 8-4 when first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti drew a lead off walk, advanced to third on a double down the left field line by third baseman Teuris Olivares and scored on a sacrifice fly to right center by Radmanovich.

Somerset added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning to make it 10-4. Ayala lined a two out single to right, advanced into scoring position on a walk to Ryan and scored on a RBI single to center by designated hitter Matt Hagen. Chiaravalloti then delivered a RBI single to center to plate Ryan.

Bridgeport struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead when centerfielder Travis Ezi led off with a solo home run (4) to left.

The Bluefish made it a 2-0 lead with a run in the bottom of the second inning when rightfielder Branden Florence led off with a solo home run (3) to left.

Somerset answered with three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead when Smith lined a two out single to right center, Ayala reached on a Bluefish throwing error and Ryan crushed a three run home run (7) to right.

Bridgeport plated two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to retake the lead at 4-3. The Bluefish loaded the bases on a leaf off double down the left field line by catcher Brian Munhall, a single to left by leftfielder Bobby Darula and a walk to shortstop Alex Prieto. Second baseman Henry Mateo then hit a one out sacrifice fly to left that scored Munhall and Darula would score on a Patriots' throwing error on a groundball to third.

The Patriots tied the game at 4-4 with a run in the top of the sixth inning when Ryan ripped a one out double to deep right center and came around to score on a RBI double into the left field corner by designated hitter Brandon Larson.

Patriots' starter Brian Adams (4-2) picked up the win, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits while striking out three and walking three in six innings pitched. Bluefish starter Matt Pike (5-2) suffered the loss, allowing seven runs, two earned, on six hits while walking two and striking out two in 6.1 innings of work.

With the win the Patriots improved to 29-19 on 2008 season while the Bluefish dropped to 25-24.

The 2008 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Thursday, June 19th when the Patriots return to Commerce Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Bridgeport Bluefish.
