Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (30-34) scored early and often, an offensive deluge capped by a five-run seventh inning, to cruise to a 12-3 triumph over the Round Rock Express (28-37) Tuesday night at Isotopes Park. For the second straight night a trio of Isotopes, Tagg Bozied, Andrew Beattie, and John Baker homered to ignite the previously dormant offense, while Frankie De La Cruz was brilliant, allowing one hit in six innings.

Robert Andino led off the opening frame by slapping a single to left-center field before scampering to third on a single by Chris Barnwell. Andino would score on a 6-4-3 double-play hit by John Gall to give the Isotopes the early 1-0 lead.

Baker scorched a double to left-center field to leadoff the third inning for De La Cruz who was hit by a pitch while attempting to bunt. Andino then stung a ground ball to shortstop Edwin Maysonet that trickled through his legs into left field, allowing Baker to double the Isotopes' lead to 2-0.

Albuquerque continued to put pressure on the Express in the fourth when Dallas McPherson drew a leadoff walk before sprinting to third following a perfectly executed hit-and-run single by Beattie. Jai Miller then grounded into a force out to eliminate Beattie while McPherson trotted home, increasing the advantage to 3-0. At the conclusion of the play, Miller stole second when Round Rock failed to cover second base, a mental gaffe that proved particularly costly when Baker singled to right field, chasing home Miller to elongate the Albuquerque edge to 4-0.

In the fifth, Gall cracked a one-out, line-drive double down the left field line to spark another 'Topes rally that was extended when Bozied slugged a two-run blast over the left field fence to give Albuquerque a six run lead. McPherson continued the offensive onslaught by adding a stand up triple in front of Beattie, who lifted a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to a healthy 7-0.

After Round Rock finally dented the scoreboard with two in the seventh, Albuquerque answered immediately with a five-run bottom half of the inning to blow the game wide open. Gall started the rally with a single to center only to be forced out on a groundball hit by Bozied, who would then steal second in front of a McPherson walk, giving Albuquerque two on with one out. After seeing one pitch from Express reliever Fernando Nieve, Beattie crushed a three-run homer over the left field fence for the 10-2 lead. One batter later, Baker added a solo blast to left to pad the lead to nine at 11-2. In four plate appearances, the Isotopes catcher came a triple away from the cycle, racking up a single, double, home run, and walk. Chase Lambin extended the rally with his proficient pinch-hitting, lining a single to left before advancing to second on a hit-by-pitch to Andino. Barnwell continued his hot hitting by driving in Lambin with a single to left to give Albuquerque a perfect dozed at 12-2.

The Express battled back in the ninth scoring a run following a hits batsman and a pair of singles, but Isotopes reliever Taylor Tankersley settled down to secure the 12-3 Isotopes victory.

Isotopes ace Frankie De La Cruz (7-3) had an ace-like performance with the lone hit allowed in his six innings of work being an Edwin Maysonet single in the fourth. The right-hander also struck out five while walking just one to earn his team-high seventh win of the season.

Tomorrow, Albuquerque will give the ball to Gaby Hernandez (2-5, 5.32) against Round Rock southpaw Josh Muecke (4-4, 3.48) in game three of the series at Isotopes Park, with first pitch slated for 7:05 PM.

The first half of Albuquerque's exciting eight-game homestand continues against the Round Rock Express, Triple-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
