Minor League Baseball Attendance Nearly 900,000 Ahead Of 2007 Record Pace

June 10, 2008 - Carolina League (CarL) Myrtle Beach Pelicans

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Minor League Baseball enjoyed a banner first two months of the 2008 season, drawing over 14.5 million fans in the 11 full-season leagues, including the Carolina. The overall first two-month total is nearly 900,000 fans (2.4 percent) ahead of 2007, when the industry set a season attendance record for the fourth consecutive year.

Minor League Baseball's record two-month numbers at the turnstiles were fueled by an exceptional April, during which the 136 clubs in 11 leagues averaged 3,915 fans per date, up nearly 8 percent from 2007.

The Myrtle Beach Pelicans contributed to Minor League's Baseball's success over the first two months, raising average attendance at BB&T Coastal Field from 2,474 fans per opening in April/May 2007 to 3,194 during that same two-month period in 2008, an increase of 29 percent. The Pelicans' first two-month surge was a huge part of the Carolina League's 10.7 percent gain over 2007 April/May attendance figures across the eight-team circuit.

The Pelicans are the proud hosts of the 2008 California-Carolina League All-Star Game presented by Hard Rock Park on Tuesday, June 24th at BB&T Coastal Field. Tickets are currently available and can be purchased by calling the Pelicans at (843) 918-6000 or toll-free at (877) 918-TIXX, visiting the Pelicans Box Office at BB&T Coastal Field or logging on to MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
