Mazzaro (7-2) walked three and fanned six. Sixty-seven of his 104 pitches were strikes.
Mazzaro and Chance Douglass matched zeros for four frames before the RockHounds took a 2-0 lead on a pair of solo home runs.
Jon Zeringue opened the fifth with his ninth home run of the year. Two outs later, Justin Sellers knocked his third round-tripper. Both hit Douglass fastballs to the berm in left field.
In the home fifth, consecutive two-out doubles by Eli Iorg and Mitch Einertson halved the Midland lead. Iorg later contributed an RBI ground out in the ninth.
Midland broke the game open two innings later. Tommy Everidge doubled to right-center, advanced to third on Zeringue's sacrifice bunt and scored on an infield hit by Anthony Recker. Douglass picked Recker off first before walking Myron Leslie. Sellers then doubled to the gap in left-center before Aaron Cunningham stroked a two-run triple to right.
Douglass (3-3) exited the contest after 6 2/3 innings, nine hits, one walk and four strikeouts. He threw 97 pitches, 60 for strikes.
The RockHounds added an insurance run in the eighth off Ryan McKeller. Guzman parlayed a lead-off double into Midland's sixth score by stealing third and scooting home on an Everidge sacrifice fly.
Singles by Sellers and Todd Donovan sandwiched the first out of the ninth before Guzman belted his 11th home run off Ryan Thompson, a blast over the left-field berm.
Midland's Andrew Bailey (1-5) faces Brian Bogusevic (0-5) Thursday night at 7:05
