Power Pitching Stops Captains

(Eastlake, OH) - Eric Fryer had two RBI's including the go ahead RBI as the West Virginia Power defeated the Lake County Captains on Thursday 5-1 at Classic Park. The Captains scored a run in the first inning but could not muster any other runs. The Captains and Power have split the first four games of the series and will play the rubber game on Friday. The Captains (30-17) are now 5-3 on the current home stand and remain in first place.

The Captains struck first in the first inning off Power starter R.J. Seidel when Adam White walked to lead off the inning. He would steal second and go to third on a ground out. White would score on a ground out by Karexon Sanchez to make it 1-0. Seidel would go four innings and not factor in the decision. The Power took the lead in the seventh inning off of reliever Jonathan Holt. Zelous Wheeler led off the inning by getting hit by a pitch. A ground out moved Wheeler to second, and he would score on a two out single by Eric Fryer. Fryer who took second on the throw to the plate trying to get Wheeler, scored on a double by Brent Brewer and the Power led 2-1. Holt gave up another in the eighth inning on a RBI single by Caleb Gindl. Holt had replaced Chris Archer who started and threw six shutout innings but did not factor in the decision.

The Power added two runs in the ninth inning off of Kyle Landis on a solo home run by Fryer and a Sacrifice fly by Eric Farris to make it 5-1. Chris Cody made his Power debut in relief of Seidel and picked up the win pitching five scoreless innings striking out eight and scattering three hits. Holt took the loss to drop his record to 0-4.

The series and the home stand conclude on Friday at 7:05 PM. The Captains will send LHP Ryan Miller (7-0, 1.02) to the mound against the Power's RHP Amaury Rivas (3-1, 2.61). The game can also be heard on AM 1330 WELW, WELW.COM or CAPTAINSBASEBALL.COM.

The Captains are expected to welcome their two millionth fan to Classic Park on Friday night. There will be a Fireworks Extravaganza following the game. The Captains will travel to Lexington for a four game series with the Legends before returning home on May 28th.
