Tucson Sidewinders News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - Chad Tracy was 3-for-4 and broke a tie game with an RBI double in the ninth inning as the Tucson Sidewinders rallied for four runs over the final two innings to come back for a 5-2 victory over the Portland Beavers Monday night at PGE Park.

Tracy doubled and scored twice, drew a walk and totaled two RBIs to lead the Sidewinders, who won their third straight game.

Solo homers by Peter Ciofrone and Chip Ambres gave the Beavers (20-22) two different leads of a run, but Tucson (16-29) tied the game with an unearned run in the eighth and passed up Portland with a three-run ninth against closer Jared Wells (1-1).

Though neither factored in the decision, starters Josh Banks and Evan MacLane both turned in stellar efforts. Banks struck out eight batters and limited Tucson to a run on four hits and two walks over six innings in his best start of the year. MacLane gave up one run and three hits and did not allow a walk in five innings for Tucson.

Jailen Peguero (2-1) struck out three and worked two scoreless innings to round out the game for the win.

Ciofrone's first-inning solo homer, his third in his last seven games, stood up as the game's only run until Alex Romero doubled and scored to tie it at 1-1 one batter later on a single up the middle by Tracy.

Ambres' two-out shot off to left-center off reliever Chris Kinsey gave the Beavers their second lead in the seventh, but Tracy doubled to lead off the next frame and scored when Wilkin Castillo reached on an infield single, and a throwing error by Matt Antonelli at second base allowed an extra base for both base runners.

After Tracy's double in the ninth, Josh Whitesell drove in a run on a force out and Castillo beat out another infield single to give the Sidewinders a three-run cushion.

Catcher Michael Barrett was 1-for-2 with a single and a groundout in his first game of a major league rehabilitation assignment with the Beavers.

The series continues Tuesday at 11:05 a.m. as the Beavers present the second of four Art & Science of Baseball School Days. Gates open at 9 a.m.
