In game one of a doubleheader, Grand Prairie slipped past the Sports 2-1 to notch the franchise's first American Association victory. Scot Drucker went 5 1/3 innings to get the win and James Morrison pitched 2/3 of an inning to earn the save. DH Derek Nicholson was 2-for-3 in the contest including a lead off triple in the fourth inning. 1B Billy Munoz later singled to drive him in for what proved to be the decisive run. Bert Snow went all seven innings for Shreveport but took the loss.

Shreveport 5, Grand Prairie 1 (Game 2 - 7 innings)

Game two of the doubleheader went to the Sports by a 5-1 count. Shreveport led the whole way as they scored three in the third inning and single runs in the fifth and sixth. CF Deacon Burns and RF Ron Fenwick paced the Sports offense. Burns went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored while Fenwick finished 2-for-3, scored a run, and drove in three. After an error and a walk put two runners on in the third, Burns doubled and Fenwick singled for a 3-0 advantage. Shreveport starting pitcher Thad Markray was in control throughout, giving up just four hits while striking out five and walking none.

St. Paul 9, Sioux City 3

St. Paul continued their great start to the 2008 season by posting a
9-3 victory at Sioux City. The Saints remain the only undefeated team in the American Association with a mark of 7-0. In the second inning SS Brian Sprout delivered a bases clearing double to left center field which put St. Paul ahead 4-1. RBI singles by LF Pichi Balet and 1B Jason Colson in the seventh inning helped St. Paul push the lead to 7-2. Charlie Ruud pitched five strong innings for the win and Kyle Foster pitched two hitless innings in relief. St. Paul got production up and down the lineup as every starter but one had a hit.

Pensacola 10, Sioux Falls 5

HR: PEN- Chris Reynolds (1), Rafael Alvarez (2)
Pensacola broke out to a 6-2 lead, saw the Canaries close the gap to 6-5 and then pulled away in the ninth as they scored four times to win 10-5. Chris Reynolds and Rafael Alvarez did the damage for the Pelicans as Reynolds hit a solo shot in the third and Alvarez a two run bomb in the fifth. Reynolds also doubled in the game and finished with four RBI. Dustin Cameron pitched 1 2/3 innings to earn his third save of the year. RF Ben Van Iderstine turned in a fine night at the plate for the Canaries going 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, and a run scored.

Wichita 12, El Paso 7

Dustan Mohr's grand slam punctuated an offensive explosion by the Wingnuts who beat El Paso 12-7. Mohr's fifth inning blast helped Wichita score six times in the frame and break the game open on the way to victory. Wichita starter Leonard Landeros did not allow a hit through five innings and earned his first victory of the year.
