The Iowa Cubs took a pair of afternoon games from the Portland Beavers on Mother's Day winning 3-0 and 3-2 in the doubleheader.
Rich Hill threw 5.2 innings in the shutout, allowing three hits while striking out eight. Sam Fuld went 2-for-3 with a double and catcher Koyie Hill also added a double and drove in two runs.
Portland's Wade LeBlanc (2-3) was tagged with the loss in game one. Iowa came from behind to defeat Portland in the second game, 3-2. Iowa was down 2-0 until the fourth inning when Josh Kroger hit a two-run homer that scored Casey McGehee. Bobby Scaled then singled and scored on an Eric Patterson single, for the 3-2 final.
Randy Wells picked up his second win of the season striking out one in one inning of work while the Beavers' Enrique Gonzalez (0-2) took the loss. Andy Cavazos earned his first save.
