Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL. - The Kane County Cougars received great pitching in both ends of their Tuesday doubleheader split against the Fort Wayne Wizards. Travis Banwart took a hard-luck loss, 2-0, in Game 1, but Jamie Richmond grabbed the win in a 1-0 finish in Game 2, as the Cougars snapped a three-game skid in front of 6,142 fans at Elfstrom Stadium.

Banwart (2-2) gave up one run in each of his first two innings in Game 1 but settled down to stymie the Wizards the rest of the way. He retired nine straight at one point and tied a career high with seven strikeouts en route to his second straight quality start and third of the year. The Cougars' offense had several chances against three different Fort Wayne hurlers but couldn't push across a run while stranding seven runners.

In Game 2 Richmond (2-1) posted a quality start for the second straight time. He gave up four hits, walked one and also tied a career high with seven strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings. He became the winner thanks to Walter Correa's two-out RBI double in the fourth inning off reliever Brandon Gomes (1-1), which ended the Cougars' streak of consecutive innings without a run at 22. Branden Dewing notched his third save by inducing a game-ending 4-6-3 double play. The Cougars (17-7) and Wizards (10-15) conclude their three-game series Wednesday at noon CT when Scott Hodsdon (0-3, 7.71) faces Wynn Pelzer (1-1, 5.28).
