Long Island Ducks News Release

(Central Islip, N.Y., Apr. 22, 2008) - Long Island Ducks team officials today announced the signing of pitcher Tom Martin. The lefty has pitched at the big league level in each of the past 11 seasons. He spent the majority of last year with the National League champion Colorado Rockies, appearing in 26 contests.

"Having a big league presence on our team not only helps us on the field, but in the clubhouse as well," says Ducks manager Dave LaPoint. "Tom will have an immediate impact as we look to make the playoffs for a fifth consecutive year."

Martin made his Major League debut in 1997 with Houston, compiling an impressive 2.09 ERA and 5-3 record in 55 relief outings for the Astros. He was taken by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 1997 expansion draft, and dealt to Cleveland, along with Travis Fryman, in exchange for Matt Williams prior to the start of the 1998 season. He spent the next three years with the Indians, and appeared in 14 games for the New York Mets in 2001. His most productive big league campaign came in 2003 with Los Angeles. The South Carolina native appeared in 80 games for the Dodgers that season, posting a 3.56 ERA while allowing just 36 hits in 51 innings of work. Martin has appeared in 376 games each at the Major League level and in the minors. He was a sixth round draft pick of the Baltimore Orioles in 1988.
