Dayton Dragons News Release

Dayton, OH - The Dayton Dragons have announced that infielder Zack Cozart (CO-zart) has been promoted to Dayton from the Cincinnati Reds extended spring training camp in Sarasota, Florida. To make room for Cozart on the roster, infielder Jake Kahaulelio (kuh-HAL-uh-LEE-oh) has been assigned to extended spring training from Dayton.

Cozart was selected in the second round of the 2007 draft by the Reds out of the University of Mississippi. He was chosen by Baseball America as the best defensive player in college baseball last spring and was selected by the same publication as the best defensive infielder in the Reds minor league organization prior to this season.

Cozart made his professional debut with the Dragons last summer after signing with the Reds. He hit .239 in 53 games.

Cozart was selected 1st Team All-Southeastern Conference by SEC coaches in 2007 and also named American Baseball Coaches Association 2nd Team All-South Region. In 2006, his sophomore year at Ole Miss, he was selected 2nd Team All-American by ABCA, 3rd Team All-American by the National College Baseball Writers Association, and 1st Team All-Southeastern Conference by the SEC coaches. He was also selected to the Southeastern Conference Freshman All-Conference team in 2005 when he set school records for most runs scored and most total bases by a freshman.

Kahaulelio played in four games for Dayton this season, batting .167 (2 for 12) with two runs batted in.

The Dragons host the Cedar Rapids Kernels tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in the start of a three-game series. For ticket information, call (937) 228-2287.
