Tulsa Drillers News Release

April 14, 2008 - San Antonio made good use of only six hits Monday night as the Missions were timely in scoring two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings for a come-from-behind 4-2 win over the Tulsa Drillers.

Trailing 2-0 and without a hit for the first three innings, the Missions took advantage of rare wildness by Tulsa starting pitcher Alan Johnson. With one out, Chad Huffman drew a walk from Johnson and then scored on a double by Marshall McDougall, the first hit of the game for the Missions. After a wild pitch and another walk, McDougall came home on a sacrifice fly by Seth Johnston to tie the game at 2-2.

The two-run fifth began with a one-out single by pitcher Michael Ekstrom. Drew Macias put the Missions in front with a triple off the wall in right-center field. Following a walk to Chad Cooper, Hooper made it 4-2 with a sacrifice fly that scored Macias.

Johnson was tagged for the loss, his first decision of the year. The right-hander surrendered five hits, four walks and four runs in five innings. The wildness was uncharacteristic, as he walked only 49 batters in 181 innings last year.

Tulsa out-hit San Antonio 7-6 in the loss, but did not score again after a two-run second inning. Justin Nelson opened the game's scoring by leading off that second with his second home run of the year. Daniel Carte then walked and moved to third on a double by Jeff Kindel. Carte eventually scored on a ground out by Neil Wilson.

Kindel's double in the second was one of three hits for the Tulsa first baseman. He was the only Drillers player with more than one hit in the game.

The Tulsa bullpen was effective in relief of Johnson. Adam Bright did not allow a run after coming on with runners at second and third and no outs in the sixth inning.

Casey Weathers worked two hitless innings, striking out four, and Ryan Mattheus pitched a scoreless ninth.

Tulsa will complete its first homestand of the season with a morning 10:05AM game on Tuesday at Drillers Stadium. The early game will feature a top pitching match up with Brandon Hynick (1-1, 8.71 ERA) working against William Inman (2-0, 0.00 ERA) of the Missions.
