Stars vs. San Antonio Rampage

The Stars played their final home game of the 2007-2008 Season Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Unfortunately for the Stars, it ended in disappointment as the visiting San Antonio Rampage tied the score at 2 with less than one minute to play in regulation and then scored the game winner :29 seconds into overtime. The Rampage got the first goal of the game 6:55 seconds into the first period on a shot by Nick Ross. Thirty four seconds later, the Stars tied the game up when Marty Sertich beat Al Montoya top shelf. Sertich added his second goal of the period with :50 seconds remaining in the first as Marius Holtet fed a pass to the front of the crease, Sertich batted the puck out of the air and threw the legs of Montoya to give the Stars a 2-1 lead after 1. The 2nd period was a physical period highlighted by an illegal hit by Keith Yandle that put Holtet head first into the boards. Holtet would take several minutes after the hit to get back to his feet, but would eventually skate off under his own power. The 3rd period was more of the same, furious end-to-end action and big hits at both. With :33 seconds remaining in regulation Matt Murley trickeled a shot past Stars goalie Matt Climie to force overtime, then :29 seconds into the extra period Mike Zigamonis finished things off when he fired a point blank shot over the left shoulder of Climie.

Stars 3 at Rockford IceHogs 5

The Iowa Stars 2007-08 season came to a close with a 5-3 loss to the Rockford IceHogs Sunday afternoon in Rockford. The Stars finish the season 35-37-5-3 and in eighth place in the West Division. The win for the IceHogs gave them the number two seed in the West Division playoffs and they will open at home later this week. Perttu Lindgren and Tom Wandell scored goals in the first period, the 10th of the season for each of the rookies, to bring the Stars back from an early 1-0 deficit. The second period then belonged to the IceHogs as they outscored the Stars 3-0 and outshot them 12-5. Ray Sawada scored his second goal in his 10 games with the Stars to bring his club back to within one at 3:41. The IceHogs' Ryan Stokes potted an empty netter with under a second left to make the final 5-3. Matt Climie started in net for the Stars and played the first two periods, allowing four goals and making 15 saves in taking the loss. O'Keefe played the third and stopped all 11 shots he saw.
