April 14, 2008 - Eastern League (EL1)
Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Binghamton Mets slugger Mike Carp has been chosen as the Bank of America Eastern League Player of the Week for the week ending Sunday. The honor was announced today by the Eastern League office.

Carp, who turns 22 at the end of the month, has helped lead the B-Mets to the EL's best batting average. The first baseman/designated hitter leads the league with an .895 slugging percentage and is tied for first with 18 hits, 13 RBI and 4 homers. His .474 batting average is good for third. Carp enters tonight with a six-game hit streak, which includes back-to-back four-hit games Friday and Saturday at Erie.

Back with the B-Mets for a second season after injuries limited him in 2007, Carp is the first B-Met to win the EL Player of the Week award since Brett Harper was honored for the week ending August 6th, 2007. The Cerritos, California native is the 19th-best prospect in the Mets' organization according to Baseball America.

The Binghamton Mets continue their six-game road trip today with the first game of a three-game series at Canal Park against the Akron Aeros. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
