CBA Announces All-League Teams

April 8, 2008 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release


ALBANY, NY (April 8, 2008) - The Continental Basketball Association today announced their annual All-League selections. These selections are voted upon by the ten member head coaches. To be eligible, players must have played in 24 games (1/2 of the 48 game schedule) and be in good standing with the CBA. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

FIRST TEAM

Daryan Selvy - Oklahoma Cavalry

Selvy averaged 22.7 ppg. good for second overall in the CBA. Selvy also finished fourth in steals, 1.8 a game. Selvy also pulled down 6.5 rebounds, shot 50% from the field, and 85.8% from the free throw line. His high scoring game was 38 points against Rio Grande Valley on January 3. For these accomplishments, he was named the CBA Player of the Year.

Desmond Ferguson - Yakama Sun Kings

Ferguson was the long distance threat for the Sun Kings all season long. Ferguson averaged 18.5 ppg. for Yakama. Ferguson shot an amazing 44% from three point range and knocked down a league leading 128 three's. This is the second year in a row that Ferguson was a member of the CBA All-League First team.

Ronnie Fields - Minot Skyrockets

Making his third appearance on the CBA All-League First team, Fields had another outstanding year for the Skyrockets. Fields scored at a 21.1 ppg clip and led the league in steals, 2.7, for the fourth time. Fields continued his move up the all-time scoring list to fifth all-time with 6,040 points.

James Jackson - East Kentucky Miners

"Boo" finished the year as the sixth leading scorer,21.4 ppg., and the second leading rebounder, 10.4 rpg. Jackson led the CBA in offensive rebounds, 3.9 rpg. and shot 53.2% from the field. Jackson had a 40-point outburst against the Great Falls on February 13, his high scoring output for the season. For these accomplishments, Jackson was named the Newcomer of the Year.

Moochie Norris - Yakama Sun Kings

The West Georgia product made his return to the CBA this season and he continued his fine play. Norris averaged 11.7 points and dished out a league leading 8.9 assists for the Sun Kings. Norris was an integral part of the record setting Sun Kings 43-5 season. This is Norris second CBA All- League First team selection.

SECOND TEAM

Nat Burton - Albany Patroons

The Georgetown alum had an outstanding season for the Patroons this year. Burton averaged 22.0 ppg., good for fourth in the CBA. Burton shot 53.1% from the field this season and was the defensive standout for the Patroons this season. Burton showed his steady all around game with 5.3 rebounds a game this year in Albany.

John DeGroat - Pittsburgh Xplosion

DeGroat had a breakout season for Pittsburgh this year. DeGroat was the eighth leading scorer in the CBA, 18.2 ppg. DeGroat also pulled down eight rebounds a game and swiped 1.7 steals a game for the Xplosion. DeGroat was a main cog in the revitalization of the Xplosion franchise as they won 29 games this season after winning only 10 last season.

Josh Pace - East Kentucky Miners

The Syracuse Orangemen alum led the CBA in scoring this season with a 23.0 ppg. average. Pace made the successful transition from the overseas market into the CBA this season by helping the Miners to a 26-22 regular season record. Pace was also a member of the American Conference All-Star team and had two triple doubles this season in East Kentucky.

Marvin Phillips - Oklahoma Cavalry

In his second season in the CBA, Phillips has made improvements to his game and has shown himself to be one of the best defenders in the CBA. For this, he was named the Defensive Player of the year this season in Oklahoma. Phillips was one of three players to average a double double this year, 12.9 ppg. and 10.0 rpg. for the Cavalry.

Steve Thomas - East Kentucky Miners

Thomas started his year in Atlanta before moving to East Kentucky in the middle of the season. Thomas averaged 14.0 ppg. and 11.4 rpg. on the season, one of three to accomplish that feat. Thomas pulled down 21 rebounds in a January contest against Minot for the most in a game in the CBA this season.
