Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the International Hockey League, announce forward Kory Karlander has been named as the 2007-08 IHL Most Valuable Player.

The award, which was selected by league head coaches, general managers, and members of the media, is the first MVP award for Karlander.

Currently the top scorer in the IHL, Karlander has amassed 89 points (37 goals, 52 assists) in 71 games. Tied for the K-Wings' longest scoring streak of the season, Karlander rattled off a point in 13-straight games for Kalamazoo from December 19th-January 11th.

The native of Melita, Manitoba was a recipient of the league's top weekly honor once (week 15) and earned player of the month in December.

Karlander joins Brent Jarrett (1981-82) and Rob Brown (1993-94) as the only other member of the K-Wings to receive the league's Most Valuable Player award.

The IHL will present Karlander his award on April 12th during the K-Wings regular season finale, when they host the Port Huron Icehawks at 7:30 p.m. on Fan Appreciation Night presented by WKFR.

It's do-or-die for the K-Wings as they enter the final week of the regular season. With three games remaining, Kalamazoo trails the Muskegon Fury by one point for fourth place and are five points behind the Flint Generals for third. The K-Wings will start the week at Wings Stadium this Wednesday, April 9th with a 7 p.m. face-off versus the Generals on Group Appreciation Night.

After playing the night before in Port Huron, the K-Wings and Icehawks will return to Wings Stadium this Saturday, April 12th for the regular season finale for both teams. Face-off is at 7:30 p.m. and the game will coincide with Fan Appreciation Night presented by WKFR.
