Kane County Cougars News Release

BELOIT, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars are 4-0 to start a season for the second time in team history and the first since 2004, thanks to a 5-2 win Sunday afternoon against the Beloit Snappers at Pohlman Field. A 13-hit offensive attack combined with solid pitching by a quartet of hurlers helped the Cougars complete a four-game sweep before Monday's home opener at Elfstrom Stadium.

Starter Jamie Richmond (1-0), acquired by the parent-club Oakland A's in an off-season trade, notched the win in his 2008 debut. The right-hander gave up two runs on five hits over five innings, walked none and fanned two. He allowed a first-inning run, but the Cougars erased the deficit in the third on a two-run double by Corey Brown off Daniel Berlind (0-1) and a run-scoring two-bagger by Greg Dowling that made it 3-1.

Richmond gave up his other run in the fourth, but the bullpen trio of Chris Farley, Branden Dewing and Jose Fragoso stymied the Snappers the rest of the way. Michael Lissman's two-run single in the ninth provided some much-needed insurance, as Beloit had the tying run at the plate when Fragoso got the final out for his first save.

The Cougars (4-0) host Burlington (2-2) Monday afternoon at 3 CT. Scott Mitchinson will oppose the Bees' Zach Peterson.
