Rivermen Begin Road Trip Tonight In Houston

March 25, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Peoria Rivermen News Release

The Peoria Rivermen begin a critical four game road trip tonight in Houston when they take on the Aeros at 7 pm at the Toyota Center.

Live audio and video broadcasts of the game will be available via www.rivermen.net on the B2 Networks feeds. Tonight's game begins four straight games for Peoria against Texas teams, playing in Houston tonight and Friday, plus a pair of games in San Antonio against the Rampage Thursday and Saturday night.

"Our fate is in our own hands," said Rivermen head coach Dave Baseggio. "I like our schedule in that we play Houston and San Antonio three times each. We can control what happens by winning."

Houston has been hot of late, winning seven of its last ten games and 11-of-14, including a seven game win streak. All this despite a groin injury to number one goaltender Nolan Schaefer, who has not played since leaving a game in Peoria on February 12 just under two minutes in.

In his stead, Barry Brust has played well, winning every game in the streak of seven and helping Houston jet back up the standings and into a tie for fourth place along with the Milwaukee Admirals at 81 points. Peoria sits just three points behind both in sixth.

While the Aeros have been streaking, the Rampage has been faltering. San Antonio has lost four straight and has just three wins in its last ten games. Consequently the Rampage are just one point ahead of Houston and Milwaukee in third at 82 points, and are four points behind the second place Rockford IceHogs at 86.

The Rivermen have out-scored opponents 11-4 in the last two games while goaltender Ben Bishop has won both contests with a 2.00 GAA and .911 save percentage. Julian Talbot enters the stretch as the reigning Rbk/AHL Player of the Week after scoring three goals and adding two assists in both of Peoria's wins last week.

In Saturday's game, Mike Glumac became just the fourth Rivermen player to record a four-point night this season with two goals and two assists, while linemate Jean-Guy Trudel also scored twice. Nikolay Lemtyugov scored a pair of goals in Friday's game where Talbot notched the hat trick.

"Things are starting to balance themselves out offensively," said Baseggio. "We have so much offensive talent, it's nice to see the rookies maintaining their pace and have the veterans step up as well."

Peoria will look to move within a point of the Aeros starting tonight in Houston, with the Rivermen Pre-Game Show broadcast live on your Home for Rivermen Hockey, 96.5 ESPN Radio. The B2 Networks audio and video feeds begin approximately 20 minutes prior to game time. Streaming audio of the games is free of charge, and the video feed costs $6 and is available via www.rivermen.net. If you can't be there, tune it in on line!
