Miners defeat Atlanta 194-115, break CBA single-game scoring recordMarch 2, 2008 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) - East Kentucky Miners
"To break the single-game scoring record is a tremendous feat for any franchise - especially a first-year franchise," said East Kentucky Coach Kevin Keathley. "We were very fortunate to have the opportunity to break the record on our home floor in front of a great fanbase. Our players and fans had the chance to be part of an historic night."
The previous CBA scoring record of 183 points was set by the Anchorage Northern Knights on February 19, 1979. Anchorage defeated the Maine Lumberjacks 183-140 to set the previous scoring mark.
Mike Dean (24-21) led East Kentucky with a game-high 44 points. Eight different Miners reached double figures in the scoring column. Josh Pace scored 28 points and Boo Jackson contributed a double-double of 26 points and 20 rebounds for the Miners. Lawrence Barnes netted 23 points in host East Kentucky's record-breaking victory.
Jason McLeish finished with a double-double that consisted of 18 points and a game-high 16 assists for East Kentucky. Steve Thomas added a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Miners. Daniel Price (18 points) and Mike Crain (12 points) also reached double figures scoring for the winning team.
East Kentucky shot 69.3-percent (41-of-52) from the field and 91.1-percent (27-of-30) from the free-throw line.
The Miners held Atlanta to 38.9-percent shooting from the field.
East Kentucky owned the boards, outrebounding Atlanta 66-29.
The Miners outscored Atlanta 42-12 in the first quarter and carried a commanding 83-46 lead into halftime.
Atlanta had five different players reach double figures scoring in the shootout.
The Miners finished with 45 assists.
"To hand out 45 assists says a lot for our players and their unselfishness in moving the basketball and producing offensively," Keathley added.
East Kentucky outscored Atlanta 58-36 in a offensive-packed third quarter.
The Miners will end the regular-season on Thursday at American Conference leader Minot.
