Albany Devils News Release

LOWELL, Mass. - Goals scored forty-two seconds apart in the third period by Mark Ardelan and Joe Jensen gave the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins the 3-2 lead and the eventual win over the Lowell Devils on Wednesday at Tsongas Arena.

Hoping to end their five-game winless streak, the Devils took a 2-1 edge into the final period of play. The Penguins, however, would strike quickly as Ardelan took advantage of a turnover behind the Lowell net, banking the puck off of Frank Doyle and across the goal line at 6:49. Just over forty seconds later, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton took the lead for good off of another Devils' turnover near Doyle. Mark Letestu quickly got the loose puck to Joe Jensen along in the slot for a shot that rattled off the post and into the net. !

In an evenly matched first period, it was the Devils scoring first at 14:51 when Benoit Mondou sped into the Penguins' zone and beat John Curry to the blocker side with a wrist shot from the far circle. The goal was Mondou's seventh of the season.

The Penguins finally tied the score 1-1 in the second period with their only power play goal of the evening. A screened Doyle could not get a bead on Kurtis MacLean's shot that found the top corner at 13:18.

Despite being outshot 16-4 in the second period, Lowell was still able to hold a 2-1 heading into the second intermission. After the Penguins coughed up the puck deep in the zone, Jason Ryznar was able to swoop in and sneak a wraparound shot inside the far post with 21.6 seconds remaining in the period for his sixth marker this year.

Doyle finished the game with 31 saves, while Jean-Luc Grand-Pierre recorded his first multi-point game of the year with two assists. The Devils were scoreless in just one power play opportunity.

The Lowell Devils take to the road for their final two games before All-Star Weekend.
