MAHL's Indiana Ice Miners Set Pro Record for Longest Winning Streak

January 22, 2008 - Mid-Atlantic Hockey League (MAHL) News Release

(Canton, Ohio) The Mid-Atlantic Hockey League's version of the New England Patriots, the Indiana Ice Miners, made professional hockey history last Saturday (January 19th) when they won their record setting nineteenth in a row against the Valley Forge Freedom. The Ice Miners, coached by Fort Wayne, Indiana native Brian Gratz, have posted an overall record of 24 wins, 1 loss, and no overtime losses. Indiana is 13-0 on the road this season and 11-1 playing their home games at the S&T Bank Arena in Indiana, Pennsylvania. The Ice Miners only loss of the season came back on November 24th when the Wooster Warriors defeated them 4-3. Indiana's next opportunity to extend the winning streak comes this Saturday night (January 26th) when they host the Jamestown Vikings.

The Indiana Ice Miners nineteen straight victories topped the previous professional record which had been eighteen held by both the 06/07 Las Vegas Wranglers (ECHL) and 90/91 Peoria Rivermen (IHL). The National Hockey League record is seventeen by the 92/93 Pittsburgh Penguins and the AHL record is also seventeen set by the 04/05 Philadelphia Phantoms. The 06/07 Colorado Eagles hold the CHL record at fifteen games and the SPHL record stands at eleven by the 06/07 Fayetteville FireAntz.

Besides the Indiana Ice Miners, two other MAHL teams begin the week riding winning streaks. The second place Wooster Warriors have won four in a row while the third place Mon Valley Thunder are undefeated in their last three games.

The MAHL continues to send players up the professional ladder

With Indiana Ice Miners Chris Ferazzoli and Andrew Scampoli getting the call to the Central Hockey League last week and Mon Valley's Joey Olson going back to the ECHL, twenty-four Mid-Atlantic Hockey League call-ups to either the CHL or ECHL have occurred since the start of the season in early November.
