San Jose Earthquakes News Release
Baltimore, MD - The San Jose Earthquakes select midfielder Shea Salinas in the 15th overall pick at the 2008 Major League Soccer SuperDraft held today Friday January 18th, 2008 in Baltimore, Maryland.
"We have chosen an athletic, wide attacking player," stated John Doyle, General Manager of Soccer Operations of the San Jose Earthquakes. "Shea comes from a school that has produced great players such as Clint Dempsey and Ricardo Clark."
Salinas is from Furman University where he played 77 games, scored 14 goals and had 21 assist in his college career. Salinas, 21, was named to the NSCAA All-American Third Team and NSCAA All-South Region First Team in 2007. In 2006 and 2007 the Texas native was also named to the All-Southern Conference First Team. In addition, Salinas was a NSCAA All-South Region Third Team selection in 2006.
"We are excited to add Shea to the team," stated Frank Yallop, Head Coach of the San Jose Earthquakes. "He is a great attacker and plays both sides of the wing. He is a very quick and exciting player to watch."
Salinas played club soccer for the Dallas Texans and Solar. He also played for the Carolina Dynamo of the PDL. In 2007 Salinas was a USL PDL All-Conference Selection and Team MVP.
"I am very excited to be part of such a great team like the San Jose Earthquakes. I woke up this morning and I was thinking if there was team I wanted to be picked by it would be San Jose," stated Shea Salinas. "Now my dream has come true and I can't wait to go to San Jose and start playing."
