Hamilton Bulldogs News Release

HAMILTON, ON - Corey Locke, who was re-assigned to the Hamilton Bulldogs by the Montreal Canadiens earlier today, posted a goal and an assist to lead the ‘Dogs to a 5-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at Copps Coliseum. With the win, the Bulldogs now sit in third place in the North Division with a 16-15-1-5 record and 38 points on the season.

Hamilton jumped out to a 2-0 lead with two goals 46 seconds apart in the first period. At 5:34 of the frame, Corey Locke wired a slap shot from the slot into the back of the Syracuse net on the power-play to make the score 1-0. Duncan Milroy then propelled the Bulldogs to a two-goal lead at the 6:20 mark when he chipped home a pass from Mathieu Carle from the side of the net.

The Bulldogs extended their lead to 3-0 at 7:45 of the opening stanza when Janne Lahti potted his sixth goal of the season. Locke and Pavel Valentenko, who picked up his second helper of the night, earned assists on the power-play goal.

The Crunch cut into the ‘Dogs lead on a power play at 11:20 of the first period on a goal by Zenon Konopka. Aaron Rome and Clay Wilson registered assists on Konopka's 10th marker on the campaign.

At 10:41 of the middle stanza, Hamilton restored its three-goal cushion when Matt D'Agostini fired a high shot past Crunch netminder Karl Goehring. Eric Manlow and Marvin Degon assisted on the goal that extended D'Agostini's point streak to a team-high six games.

While skating four players aside, Daniel Corso was sprung on a breakaway by Carle and made no mistake burying a wrist shot into the top of the net. The goal, Corso's second tally of the season, made the score 5-1.

Adam Munro replaced starting goaltender Karl Goehring between the pipes for Syracuse to start the third period.

Syracuse narrowed the gap to 5-2 at 6:26 of the final frame on a power play when Derek MacKenzie notched his 14th goal of the season. Rome and David Cullen assisted on the game's final goal.

Hamilton bounced back from the team's last meeting with Syracuse on December 15th, 2007 when they dropped a 9-2 decision. The loss was the Club's worst showing since November 23rd, 2002 when the Bulldogs were shutout 8-0 in Binghamton by the Senators.

Between the pipes, Carey Price made 29 saves on 31 shots to earn the victory for the Bulldogs. Crunch netminder Goehring suffered the loss with 15 saves on 20 shots in two periods of action before Munro stopped all eight of the shots he faced in the third period.

Hamilton was 2-for-5 on the power play while Syracuse went 2-for-7 with the man advantage.
