Iowa Chops News Release
The Iowa Stars today announced that forwards Aaron Gagnon and Tommy Wandell have been reassigned by Dallas to the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads.
Gagnon, 21, appeared in 12 games with Idaho earlier this season, recording 5 goals and 5 assists for 10 points. Gagnon attended the 2007-08 Dallas Stars training camp, and has played in 10 games with Iowa this season after being assigned on November 24, 2007.
The 5-11, 190-pound center made his professional debut this season after a stellar career with the Seattle Thunderbirds in the Western Hockey League. Signed as a free agent by Dallas on Feb. 2, 2007, the native of Armstrong, BC, ranked second in the WHL in goals (42) and led Seattle in goals and points (80) last season. He was named a First-Team All-WHL All-Star and won the Brad Hornung Trophy as the league's most sportsmanlike player. Gagnon was originally selected by Phoenix in the eighth round (240th overall) in the 2004 Entry Draft.
Wandell, 20, appeared in 18 games with Iowa this season scoring two goals and registering 8 PIM before he was sidelined with an injury in November.
The 6-1, 180-pound center was signed by Dallas to a three-year contract on May 15, 2007 after being drafted in the 5th round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Wandell scored his first North American professional point with a goal in the Stars 4-2 loss at Milwaukee on October 19, 2007. In 2006-2007, he ranked ninth on the team in goals and tied for 10th in points for Assat Pori of the Finnish Elite League and skated for Team Sweden a the 2006 Four Nations Cup.
