P-Bruins Defeat River Rats 3-1

Albany, NY - The Providence Bruins defeated the Albany River Rats 3-1 Thursday evening at the Times Union Center. The P-Bruins got two goals from Pascal Pelletier and an empty net goal from Matt Hendricks. The 25-5-2 Atlantic Division leading P-Bruins are back in action Friday at the Arena at Harbor Yard against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:30 p.m. Providence moves eleven points ahead of the second place Hartford Wolf Pack.
The River Rats scored first in the opening period at the 5:46 mark. Jakub Petruzalek tallied his second goal of the season with Bryan Rodney and Jamie Johnson recording the assists. Providence tied the game at one with two seconds left in the period and while on a 5-on-3 power play. David Krejci held the puck at the left point and passed it to Sean Curry at the right point. He fed it to Pelletier, who was waiting just inside the right face off circle. His shot got past Albany goaltender Michael Leighton and into the net. For Pelletier it was his 18th goal of the season. The P-Bruins and River Rats went into the first intermission tied at one.
After a scoreless second period, the P-Bruins took their first lead of the game at the 4:16 mark of the third period. Pelletier scored for the second time of the evening and his league leading 19th goal. Martins Karsums and Krejci picked up the assists. The P-Bruins added an empty net insurance goal at the 19:13 mark. Hendricks tallied his ninth goal of the season, unassisted as Providence held on for the 3-1 victory.
Tuukka Rask stopped 23 of 24 shots for the P-Bruins, while Leighton made 27 saves for the River Rats. The P-Bruins were 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
The Atlantic Division-leading P-Bruins return to the Dunkin' Donuts Center for Family Games Friday, January 11 versus the Worcester Sharks at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, January 13 versus the Springfield Falcons at 4:05 p.m. Information on P-Bruins individual tickets for the 2007-08 regular season can be obtained by calling the team ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or by logging onto the team website at providencebruins.com.
