Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK - Norfolk Admirals General Manager Claude Loiselle announced today that the Admirals have signed goaltender Karl Goehring to a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO). In addition, the Admirals have released left wing Mark Rooneem from his PTO and the parent Tampa Bay Lightning has reassigned goaltender Ryan Munce to the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL).

Goehring (pronounced " GAIR-ihng"), is a 5-foot-8, 160-pound goaltender from Apple Valley, Minnesota. The 29-year-old has appeared in two AHL games with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins this season, going 0-1-0 with a 2.12 goals-against average and .909 save percentage.

Last season, Goehring went 22-15-4 with the Milwaukee Admirals with a 2.69 GAA and .908 save percentage. He tied for 14th in the AHL in wins in 2006-07. In 220 career AHL games between Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Milwaukee and the Syracuse Crunch, Goehring has posted an 89-95-18 record with 11 shutouts.

Goehring is the all-time leader in career wins (80) and shutouts (15) and ranks second in career goals-against average ( 2.23) and save percentage (.918) at the University of North Dakota. In four seasons with the Fighting Sioux between 1997-2001, Goehring notched an 80-20-13 record. He also holds the North Dakota single-season record for shutouts in a season with eight in 1999-2000.

Rooneem, a 6-foot-2, 191-pound native of Hinton, Alberta, appeared in four games with Norfolk, recording one goal with six penalty minutes. Rooneem will return to the Mississippi Sea Wolves (ECHL), where he was the leading scorer before being signed to a PTO by the Admirals two weeks ago.

Munce, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound native of Mississauga, Ontario, appeared in his first eight career AHL games with the Admirals, going 2-6-0 with a 2.99 GAA and .901 save percentage. He registered his first career AHL victory on October 13 at Albany. The 22-year-old netminder was acquired by the Lightning from the Los Angeles Kings on January 20, 2007, in exchange for a 2008 fourth-round draft pick.
