October 19, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release

Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL dropped their first game of the 2007-08 season 3-2 to the Trenton Devils at Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, New Jersey. Reading battled back from a two goal deficit to take a 2-2 tie to the third period, but the lone power play goal of the night went to Stephen Wood of the Devils, who scored the game winner at the 5:18 mark of the third. The Royals outshot Trenton 48-20, but Devils' goaltender David Caruso (1-0-0; 46/48) was excellent in his first outing for Trenton, while Jon Quick (0-1-0; 17/20) took the loss for Reading in his first pro outing.

The Devils scored first at the 6:20 mark of the first when Joe Rooney ripped a snap shot off the top of the right circle on a transition rush that beat Quick high to the glove side. Trenton took a 2-0 lead 12:49 into the opening period on a Jim Henkel deflection of a Jay Pemberton shot from the point. Reading got on the board for the first time this year when Dany Roussin batted a loose puck out of mid-air from the top of the crease after Caruso had stopped a Chris Blight backhand at 15:57 of the first. Reading tied the game at two 7:37 into the second when Patrick Jarrett fired a long bomb pass to Malcolm MacMillan, who had just stepped out of the penalty box, at the offensive blue line. MacMillan deked right and shot left on Caruso for his first goal of the season. The Devils picked up what proved to be the game winner while on the power play at the 5:18 mark of the third. Trevor Kell had control of the puck at the left side of the net and attempted to jam it through Quick who held the left pipe. The rebound was loose at Quick's feet and defenseman Stephen Wood crashed the net and forced it home for the difference maker. The Royals had their chances down the stretch including a four minute power play late in the game-as well as a power play in the last minute-but couldn't solve Caruso, who was the real difference in this one.

The Royals return to action tomorrow night in Johnstown, Pennsylvania (7:05 pm) where Reading will take on the Chiefs. The Royals game night broadcast will kick off with the pre-game warm up show on ESPN Radio 1240 am beginning at 6:35 pm.. The Royals' home opener is on Saturday, November 3, 2007, against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Royals' full Season Tickets and Total Choice Flex Plans are now on sale.
