Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK - Tampa Bay Lightning Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced today that the Lightning have assigned 2007 AHL All-Star goaltender Karri Ramo (pronounced KAHR-ee RAY-moh) to the Norfolk Admirals. In addition, Tampa Bay has returned left wing Justin Keller to the Admirals after a brief call-up. Both players will travel to meet the Admirals in Philadelphia on Sunday.
Ramo, 6-foot-2, 201-pounds, played in one game for the Lightning this preseason and earned a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings. The sixth-round pick posted a 1.12 goals-against average and a .964 save percentage in four training camp scrimmages.
Last season, Ramo made his North American pro debut with the Springfield Falcons. He appeared in 45 games and posted a 3.13 goals-against average and .906 save percentage. After being selected to the 2007 AHL All-Star game, Ramo was named the winner of the Rbk Hockey Top Goaltender Award at the CCM AHL All-Star Skills Competition. He finished the 2006-07 season with the Lightning, making his first two NHL appearances.
Keller joined the Lightning from Norfolk on September 26 and played in his first preseason game against the Red Wings on September 27. In his one preseason game he logged 10:17 of ice time, landed two hits and recorded one shot on goal. He also was among the Admirals' scrimmage scoring leaders netting three goals and two assists in five games at Chilled Ponds.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound left wing also made his pro debut last season in Springfield, notching 13 goals and 11 assists in 60 games with 26 penalty minutes.
The Admirals will take part in two pre-season exhibition games to close out training camp this weekend. Both contests will be on the road. The Admirals will face off against the Hershey Bears on Saturday at Giant Center at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, Norfolk will travel to the Polonia Bank Skate Zone in Northeast Philadelphia to take on the Phantoms at 1:30 p.m.
The Admirals will open their eighth season of American Hockey League action and first season as the top affiliate of the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, October 5, at Philadelphia.
