RiverDogs Round Third, Headed for Home

August 29, 2007 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston RiverDogs return home Friday, August 31, for four games against the Rome Braves that will likely help determine their postseason destiny. Depending on the outcome of the Charleston-Columbus series (August 29-30), the RiverDogs may have a chance to clinch the South Atlantic League Southern Division title in front of their loyal fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

The RiverDogs staff, as always, will reward those fans with plenty of promotions, festivities and giveaways.

The series-opening contest comes on the final Friday Night Fireworks of the year with a 7:05 p.m. game start, presented by Cricket Communications and WEZL 103.5 FM. Riley Park will also celebrate Force Protection Industries, Inc. Military Appreciation Night 2, as fans will get to see the Force Protection Industries, Inc. Cougar on display. Military personnel will throw out the ceremonial first pitches and compete in between-inning promotions.

Saturday, Sept. 1, is Bobble Bark Giveaway Night and Hockey Night with another 7:05 p.m. start. My TV Charleston and 98X are proud to sponsor the giveaway of 1,000 bobblehead figures of Bark, the RiverDogs' newest inflatable mascot. The South Carolina Stingrays' players and staff will also be on hand to add to the festivities, and Supercuts will give $5 hair cuts on the concourse.

Family Sunday, brought to you by Charleston County Parks and Recreation and The Charleston IMAX Theatre, will begin at 4:05 p.m., but families are welcome to arrive an hour early for pregame family catch on the field and pony rides. At the end of the game, kids can run the bases and collect player autographs on team photos provided by BairFind - an organization founded by former minor league pitcher Dennis Bair - which specializes in finding missing children. Blancke Karate will have martial arts demonstrations before and during the game.

Monday, Sept. 3, is Labor Day, Stokes Honda-North Fan Appreciation Day and the final day of the regular season with a special 6:05 start time. It's also Dogs with a Cause Night, featuring Our Lady of Mercy Catnip Cottage, to raise funds and awareness for animal rescue. Before the game, the RiverDogs will recognize the winner of the T. Ashton Phillips Distinguished Service Award, an award created to honor the late RiverDogs co-owner for his dedication to the RiverDogs organization. After the game, the final round will be held for the season-long Stokes Honda-North Sumos and Sluggers promotion. All the winners of sumo competitions throughout the season return to compete in a home run derby, with the top two slugging it out immediately following the game for a free two-year lease from Stokes Honda-North. And just for fun, the RiverDogs will shoot off fireworks again to celebrate the end of the season.

If the RiverDogs make the playoffs, they will host Game 1 of a three-game series with the Augusta GreenJackets at Riley Park on Sept. 5, starting at 7:05 p.m.
