Rage Bolster the Blue Line

August 23, 2007 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Rocky Mountain Rage head coach Tracy Egeland has signed defensemen Nick Harloff and Rob Chappell to contracts for the 2007-08 season. The two blue-liners played as teammates last year for the United Hockey League's Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals and bring the Rage's current roster total to 11 players for the upcoming Central Hockey League campaign.

Harloff (6-foot-0, 181 lbs.) is a smooth-skating, third-year defenseman from Kitchener, Ontario. After playing one game last season with the CHL's Odessa Jackalopes, he jumped to the UHL and recorded a combined 28 points (6g-22a) for the Quad City Mallards and Elmira, where he was sent as part of a five-player trade in late February. Once the Jackals failed to make the post-season, Harloff then suited up for the Flint Generals in the playoffs. He began his rookie campaign in 2004-05 with the Southern Professional Hockey League's Columbus (Ga.) Cottonmouths before earning a promotion to the ECHL where he played for three different clubs.

Chappell (6-foot-1, 220 lbs.) is a hard-nosed, stay-at-home defenseman who is entering his second season. Last year as a rookie he recorded six points (3g-3a) and 117 penalty minutes for the Jackals. The native of St. Albert, Alberta, played collegiate hockey with Rage teammate David Morelli at the University of Nebraska-Omaha.

Rage player/assistant coach Brent Cullaton played with both Harloff and Chappell last season in Elmira. "Nick and Rob both work hard and are character guys that will bring different personalities to our locker room," said Cullaton. "Nick is a silent leader-type who is great with the puck, shoots well, and has the potential to get a call-up to the American Hockey League. Rob is more outspoken and is a guy that will always stick up for his teammates. He's not flashy, but he never backs down and is tough to play against in his own zone."

In addition to Chappell, Cullaton, Harloff, and Morelli, coach Egeland has also signed Tyler Butler (D), Chip Dunleavy (RW), Clay Plume (D), Scott Reid (G), Nathan Rosychuk (LW), Trevor Weisgerber (LW), and Scott Wray (LW) as the club continues to take shape in advance of the season-opener on Oct. 19 on the road against the Odessa Jackalopes.

The Rage begin their second season at Broomfield Event Center when they host the Tulsa Oilers in their home opener on Oct. 26 at 7:05 p.m. Season tickets for the 2007-08 CHL campaign are on sale now and start as low as $495 for all 32 regular season games PLUS the 2008 CHL All-Star Game at Broomfield Event Center.
