The Brooklyn Cyclones won the rubber game of a three game series with the Auburn Doubledays on Sunday night 4-2. Sunday was Jackie Robinson Night at KeySpan Park and Jackie's wife, Rachel, was on hand to watch the Cyclones' victory.
The Auburn Doubledays struck first in the top of the 4th inning with a double followed immediately by a single. The Cyclones wasted no time responding by loading the bases with singles by Jake Eigsti, Jason Jacobs, and J.R. Voyles in the bottom half of the inning. Raul Reyes recorded an RBI groundout to tie the score at 1-1.
Lucas Duda sparked a rally in the bottom of the 6th inning with a two out walk. J.R. Voyles provided the necessary fire power with a double to the center field wall. Duda came around from 2nd and put the Cyclones on top 2-1. Raul Reyes put the Cyclones further ahead with a double of his own to make the score 3-1. After an Auburn pitching change, Will Vogl got the Cyclones' third hit in a row to bring home Reyes and give the Cyclones a three-run lead.
Cyclones starter Dillon Gee gave up only one run over four innings. Tim Stronach came on in relief for the Cyclones in the 5th and pitched three scoreless innings to record the win. Relief pitcher Nate Melek entered the game for the Doubledays in the 6th inning and got the loss. Eddie Kunz entered the game for the Cyclones in the 9th and pitched a perfect inning, striking out the final two batters to record the save.
Auburn added a run in the top of the 8th, but their comeback bid fell short and cemented the 4-2 victory for the Cyclones.
After the All-Star break the Cyclones will return home to host the Hudson Valley Renegades on Thursday night. Thursday will be NYPD night at KeySpan Park.
