Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING- The Lansing Lugnuts surrendered three first inning runs for the second straight day, but this time there was no comeback in store as the Peoria Chiefs took a 6-2 win in front of 9,815 fans at Oldsmobile Park.

The Chiefs rallied with two men out in the first to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Jim Adduci's solo homer put the Chiefs on the board. He was then followed by consecutive doubles from Derek Schermerhorn and Russ Canzler that made it 2-0. Wellington Castillo's RBI single completed the three run inning.

The Lugnuts had bases loaded opportunites in the second and third innings thanks to seven walks, but could only cash in one run. Jonathan Diaz's walk brought home Sean Shoffit to cut the elad to 3-1 in the second.

Lansing loaded the bases again in the third on walks, but left every man stranded thanks to two fantastic defensive plays for Peoria.

The Chiefs extended the lead in the fifth when Leon Johnson's single drove home Nate Samson to push the advantage to 4-1. Darwin Barney followed that with a triple that plated Johnson to make it 5-1.

Lansing had just two hits in the game, both of which came in the sixth. Jonathan Baksh's double scored Yuber Rodriguez to pull the Lugnuts to 5-2, but they would get no closer than that.

Michigan native Jason Ruhlman (5-1) got the win in relief for Peoria, tossing three innings of one run baseball. He fanned six in his outing.

Nate Starner (9-9) took the loss for Lansing, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings.

Lansing (58-51, 23-17) and Peoria (55-54, 24-16) will continue the series on Saturday evening at 7:05 p.m. Graham Godfrey (6-6, 4.61) will take the mound for the Lugnuts, while Marco Carrillo (4-4, 4.45) will hurl for the Chiefs. LAFCU Fireworks follow the game.
